fire!

just when things started to get back to normal ...we had a fire in our apt. complex. it was the day after we all got power back. i am still unsure what caused it but it destroyed a whole section...about 10 units. it was a pretty big fire...they closed off the street and there were 3 fire trucks trying to put it out. i am thankful that the wind was not blowing that day b/c if it were our apt would have been at risk. we went out to look at the fire a few times because i wanted to make sure it wasn't spreading or anything. after about an hour and a half the fire was finally out and luckily everyone made it out ok. so about a week later i start noticing V was putting a couple of toys in a bag right next to the front door. at first i didn't really pay much attention just thought she was playing some kind of game and i just let it be. about a week passed of her doing this and eventually the bag starting getting pretty full so i asked V why she had all these toys in the bag...and her answer shocked and really made me sad. she said she was putting her toys there in case there was a fire she would be able to grab them when we left. my heart just broke. so we sat down and i reassured her again that we were safe and i showed her the fire detector and showed her what it did (although we hear what it does all the time when i cook..hehe). then i asked her if it was ok if we put up her bag of toys and she agreed. maybe i should have just left her in the house while i went and checked but she insisted on going...i just never thought she would have had that reaction. since our talk though she seems to be doing better. here is one pic i took...
